A good reference photo makes it easier to see the details that make a child look like themselves. You do not need a studio portrait: a simple, well-lit picture is a useful starting point.

Keep their face easy to see

Choose a photo of one child, facing the camera or turned only slightly. Keep their eyes, cheeks, and hair visible. Avoid sunglasses, heavy filters, and objects covering their face. Leave a little space around the head rather than cutting off the hair or chin.

Use soft light and a sharp image

A picture taken near a window often gives you even light without a harsh flash. Choose the original photo where possible, rather than a screenshot or a copy sent through several messaging apps. Zoom in before uploading: the eyes and facial details should still look clear.

Make them the main subject

A head-and-shoulders photo usually makes the subject easier to identify than a distant full-body picture. A simple background helps too. If you have several favourites, pick the one where their face is clearest.

Check the photo before continuing

Make sure the uploaded thumbnail shows the right child. If a photo is rejected, try a closer, clearer image. If it still does not work, contact us and describe the message you see.

The photo is a reference for the illustrated character. Product cover and page images are examples. When cover creation is available, the guided creator shows your personalized cover once it is ready.
